The school takes the GCE Advanced Level
and AS Examinations of OCR (Cambridge), AQA (AEB) or
Edexcel (London). GCSE examinations are taken with OCR
(MEG), AQA (SEG), AQA (NEAB) and Edexcel (London). General
National Vocational Qualification (GNVQ) courses at
Intermediate and Advanced level are validated by the
Business and Technology Education Council (Edexcel).
The majority of pupils attempting GCSE examinations
do so in Year 11 when they either are
or are about to become 16. In the summer 2004 examinations
it is planned that boys in Year 11 will be entered for GCSE in: Art & Design; Business
Studies; Resistant Materials; Graphic Products; Technology;
Electronics; Food Studies; Economics; English; English
Literature; French; German; Geography; History; Information
Technology; Latin; Mathematics; Music; Physical Education;
Science: Modular; Drama. Half GCSE examinations will
be taken in Information Technology & Religious Studies.
Pupils also take a course in Citizenship but this is
not examined.
The great majority of our students complete Year
11 having attempted at least nine GCSE examination
subjects. It should also be noted that the best mathematicians
are currently entered for GCSE Mathematics at the end
of Year 10. A small number of able
linguists may also enter for GCSE French at this time.
In Year 12/13 (Two Year Sixth) AS
and Advanced Level (A level) courses are taken. In the
summer 2004 examinations it is planned that students
in Year 13 will be entered for GCE
A2 level examinations in Art; Biology; Business Studies;
Chemistry; Economics; English; French; Further Mathematics;
Geography; History; ICT; Mathematics; Music; Music Technology;
Physics; Photography; German; Sociology; Design &
Technology and Food Technology. A two-year AVCE in Business
is now established. Other AVCE courses are taken by
our pupils at consortium schools.
In Year 12 AS Level examinations are
taken in all the subjects listed for Year 13 and also in Media Studies and Critical Thinking
